Can you varnish with Polyurethane clear coat over oil paints after dry?

If the oil paints are dry can you put varnish over them?

No lectures please. Can you varnish with Polyurethane clear coat over oil paints after dry?
Retired paint contractor. Not a good idea.It will tend to ';yellow'; with time.It also doesn't bond well to finish paint.Better to repaint using a good quality high-gloss paintCan you varnish with Polyurethane clear coat over oil paints after dry?
Well for example apinting cars sometimes they use Lacquer paint and after that a clear polyurethane to protect it , but in concrete floors for example you are supposed to removes all paints before applying polyurethane
Oil based varnish like spar varnish is better. Spar varnish might be a bit soft though.

If you are going to try Varathane use the oil based version instead of the water based version over oils.
